Why you NEED to know your indoor humidity levels
For mold to grow you need two things: water/ dampness and humidity.
💧Let’s talk about humidity today💧
Mold can begin to grow indoors when humidity levels stay above 60%.
To avoid mold growth, the ideal range is for indoor humidity to stay between 30–50%.
A simple humidity meter ( hygrometer is what the official name is) like this one ( costs $8.99! ) can help monitor your indoor humidity levels, and alert you if you have consistent high humidity ( this could be year round or seasonally depending on where you live, so its important to monitor all year round).
To avoid mold:
- use portable dehumidifier ( i have this one ) or air conditioning to keep indoor humidity in check,
- consider investing in a full home dehumidifying system
- pay attention to known damp areas like basements or bathrooms- but monitor all areas of the home as humidity levels can sometimes surprise us
Good ventilation, exhaust fans, and promptly fixing leaks also help prevent excess moisture that encourages mold growth.
