Welcome to the start of the school year! I know many of you have already started school, some of you still have a week or two left, but because my oldest starts school this week I’ve decided to start my meal planning for the school year ... so here we go!
As a reminder, I publish easy, mostly gluten-free weeknight dinner menus on Sunday so that I know exactly what ingredients to buy and exactly what I’m cooking every night, which makes my weeknights so much easier. I also usually post school lunch menus for the week ( I’m sorry I haven’t started that this week yet because my youngest two haven’t started school! Coming soon and I promise) . Beyond making weekdays easier, the idea is that the more we eat and cook at home, the lower our exposure level too many harmful, environmental toxins; particularly hormone disrupting phthalates and PFAS chemicals (eating processed foods and eating out are our main sources of pthalate exposure!)
I hope it makes your school year a little easier and a little lower tox too!
This week my oldest starts a brand new school ( 11th grade!) , my husband has a quick trip out of town and my other two kids are still deep in summer... which means I actually have less time to cook than during the school year because I try to do fun things with the kids or get work in any free time I get... so bring out the slow cooker (normally I try to use a slow cooker once a week just because it makes life so much easier. If you’re looking for one that is completely free of harmful chemicals I highly recommend this one that I have).
Welcome to the start of the 2026-2027 school year
Slow cooker pulled barbecue chicken sandwich
My son loves barbecue chicken so this easy to make pulled chicken. Barbecue sandwich will be perfect for his first night of school!
This recipe is a slow cooker recipe, however, I will just make a standard mac & cheese because it really doesn’t take too long to make. But I will use the ingredients in this recipe... this is our token vegetarian night recipe for the week
We have been making these turkey burgers for like eight years and it’s really the only turkey burger recipe that I’ve ever made that are truly tasty and super moist.
Sounds sophisticated, but comes together pretty quick.!
I am going to buy premade dough at my local Erewhon ( they sell great high-quality fresh sourdough pizza dough) often local pizza. Restaurants will sell their dough too. If not, here is a recipe.... it takes a while to make but it’s pretty simple just time-consuming
Have a great week!
