Sometimes its really easy to source a lower tox alternative but sometimes, for certain products, it can be really hard.

But, once you find it- a truly lower tox alternative to that product you really need and use, it is so satisfying! Also, shout out to these companies for making these products available without, unnecessarily, adding toxic chemicals. It begs the question: if these companies are doing it, why isnt everyone else?!

Here are some of the items that have been the hardest to source:

1. Polyester free Weighted blanket:

Why are all weighted blankets seemingly made out of polyester? It’s just so annoying, particularly because weighted blankets are often used for children. The issue with polyester blankets that they give off large amounts of micro & nano plastics, and additionally require really heavy chemicals for dyes and production.

I was so happy to find that Bearaby makes a weighted blanket that is made of 100% organic cotton, inside and out. My son loves it and whenever I can use it, I use it too.

2. Almond milk that tastes amazing, foams well & has no sugar, artificial flavors, nor thickeners which can trigger inflammation

I finally gave up most dairy due to inflammation issues a couple of months ago and was just utterly depressed at the idea of not being able to enjoy my daily cappuccinos anymore. I had tried all kinds of dairy milk alternatives and, honestly, just disliked them all. That is, until I discovered Almond Malk. The texture and taste is actually really good, the only almond milk I’ll drink, and the ingredients can’t get any better as it’s just: organic almonds, filtered water, Himalayan sea salt.

3. Waffle maker without undisclosed mystery ceramic finish ingredients nor PFAS

Years. We have been looking for this product for years and nothing functional, beyond a waffle iron made for camping, has come up. At some point last year my husband found this company and ordered this cast-iron waffle maker and everyone at home is so happy! There is definitely a learning curve, but I promise once you get the gist of it ,it is completely nonstick. ( I do recommend watching their Instagram videos or YouTube videos that show how to properly use the waffle iron first before using it. We had one really messy disaster lol and afterwards it’s been smooth sailing.)

ps there are a couple of cast aluminum waffle makers on the marketplace. Cast iron and cast aluminum are two different things. Cast-iron gets its nonstick property yes seasoning naturally. Cast aluminum gets its nonstick property using a synthetic, “yet food safe” nonstick surface that does not require seasoning.

4. Stainless steel cookie/ baking tray that doesn’t warp

Here’s the thing ;stainless steel is not created equal. If you don’t want stainless steel to warp you need a sticker stainless steel. This one is designed to resist warping due to its heavy gauce construction and multi ply design. I also like that they are made in the USA

5. Sleeper armchair (that converts to a bed) without PFAS, flame retardants nor polyester
